Germantown's Eichner playing for Lakeland College

Germantown graduate Jessica Eichner, a sophomore infielder for the Lakeland College women's softball team in Sheboygan, recorded three hits including a double and two RBIs at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., from March 13 to 18.

Dieringer earns All-American gymnastics honors

Allyse Dieringer of Germantown, a freshman at UW-Whitewater, earned All-America honors at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship at the McPhee Center in Eau Claire on March 26. Dieringer's 9.6 on the uneven bars earned her third place, as well as first-team All-America honors.

UW-W finished second as a team with 187.55 points.

Germantown Basketball Club has openings for players

Germantown Girls Basketball Club has openings for current fifth- through eighth-grade girls interested in playing competitive basketball and developing individual skills this summer. Practices are on Sunday afternoons. Weekly league games begin in early June and run through July. At least two weekend tournaments are planned.

Initial workouts will be held April 10 and 17 at Germantown High School. Players are advised to attend on both dates.

Fifth- through seventh-graders go from 4 to 5:30 p.m. while eighth-graders participate from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Cost is $120 plus $20 for a jersey if you are new to the program. Payment is due by the first practice date.

Falls youth soccer camps set for spring

Menomonee Falls High School soccer coach Scott Stein has two youth camps set for the spring.

There will be an introductory micro soccer camp for ages 3 to 7 held April 13 and 20 and May 4, 11 and 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $50, which includes T-shirt, training and fun.

There will also be a Falls Soccer Academy for 6- through 12-year-olds on Mondays, April 11 and 18 and May 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. The cost for that program is $70 including T-shirt, training and fun.

In both instances, the event will be held at the high school soccer stadium.

Falls sixth-grade girls third in Wisconsin State Invitational

The Menomonee Falls sixth-grade girls basketball team finished third in Division I of the Wisconsin State Invitational held in Merrill, Wausau and Marathon on Feb. 26 and 27.

The event was organized by the Great Northwest Basketball League and included 86 of the top community-based teams from across the state. There were four divisions of competition based on enrollment.

In pool play, Falls defeated Appleton East, 32-15, and Oshkosh North, 47-35, before falling to De Pere, 43-39. In the tournament playoffs, they beat Bay Port, 40-10, and Eau Claire North, 37-15, before losing to Middleton, 38-32, in two overtimes.

They then defeated Brookfield Central, 24-22, in the third-place contest.

The team was coached by Mike Grzesiak, and both Madison Grzesiak and Skylar Steffes of Falls were named to the Division I all-tournament team.

Middleton defeated Chippewa Falls, 37-30, for the Division I title.

Germantown sixth-graders take 10th in basketball tourney

The Germantown sixth-grade girls basketball team took 10th in Division I of the Wisconsin State Invitational held Feb. 26 and 27 in Merrill, Wausau and Marathon.

In pool play, Germantown lost to De Pere, 33-26, but then beat Appleton East, 37-32, and Oshkosh North, 38-13.

In the tournament playoffs, Germantown lost to Brookfield Central, 22-17, before defeating Waukesha West, 33-23. In the ninth-place game they fell to Bay Port by a 25-23 count.

The Germantown team was coached by Mike Weitermann, Jay Schaetzel, Jason Fierst, Erick Thompson and Rob Averkamp.
