Primaries needed for school seats

Jan. 14, 2009

A primary election will be needed to narrow the field for two at-large seats on the Germantown School Board.

Jayson Stemo, Shad Young and Kim Fischer filed candidacy papers for seat one, which will be vacated by Dave Magill, who served two terms.

Stemo, W15867 Bayberry Circle, has been a Germantown resident for almost three years. Stemo, 31, is married with one child, and works as the division manager at Metal Improvement Co.

Young, W16431 Concord Road, has been a Germantown resident off and on since 1998, but continuously for the last five years. Young, 33, is married with three children, and works as an oncology nurse specialist at Aurora Advanced Health Care in Menomonee Falls.

Fischer, N10738 Monroe Court, has lived in Germantown for 16 years. Fischer, 48, is married with one child, and works as the kindergarten through fifth-grade gifted and talented coordinator for the Mequon-Thiensville School District.

Seat seven incumbent Tom Bowe will be challenged by Robert Banner III, Erin Jex, and Brian Palzkill.

Bowe, W12518 Westwood Road, is running for a second term. Bowe, 42, has lived in Germantown almost 12 years, divided by an eight-year break when he worked in California. He is single with three children and works as vice president of marketing and engineering for Metrix in Waukesha.

Banner, N10730 Crabtree Lane, has been a resident of the community for four years. Banner, 28, is married with two young children. He is a corporate project consultant for Northwestern Mutual.

Jex, N11807 Daniels Drive, who filled the board vacancy created when Ric Ericksen resigned in 2007, was unseated in 2008 by Cari Brust. A resident of the community for about three years, Jex, 31, is married with two children and is a math teacher at Pius XI High School.

Palzkill, W14590 Raintree Drive, has lived in Germantown for 12 years. Palzkill, 44, is married with three children, and works as an account executive for Kellogg's Food.

Board members are elected to three-year terms and are paid $3,500 annually.

A primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The two top vote-getters for each seat will advance to the spring election Tuesday, April 7.
